Poetry is for strangers
Poetry is for strangers
not for the loved ones.
Poetry is a trip, a journey
an altered state of mind;
but that's not how we should
talk to each other
when love is the subject,
and the object.
Love is down to earth.
Love is embodied.
Love is feral
it's flesh, fluids, emotions:
we should never talk poetry
never forget the body
nor the animal
when it's a matter of love.
Love should be spoken simply,
it should be a sober language
stripped of any artifact,
decluttered of all the
redundancy, empty promises, lyricism
it should be washed of all the
you're the apple of my eye
I can see a common ground
all the nevers and forevers
all the illusions, and delusions
all the projections and expectations:
love should be spoken more like
do you want this, or don't you
do you like the way I touch you
could you do this differently, cause it hurts
would you like to see me more often
would you like to be my only lover
would you like to create a third life
together - despite the fact that we might part
or not
with no additional need to explain:
either you do, or you don't,
love can't be compelled
love isn't mandatory
therefore
we should welcome any answer
and move on.
It will hurt, eventually, but not as much
as the breaking of a chimera.
Pain is not to be avoided.
Pain can't be avoided.
It's not a matter of pain
but of neatness.
To share a part of our journeys,
with sober, simple, and clear
words: that's how I think love should be
spoken.
Poetry is for strangers
not for the loved ones
as poetry talks symbols,
and I'm very much in love with symbols
I really am
but symbols are transcendent, ambiguos
and opposite of humble;
symbols are magic, enchantment,
and trickery,
and should be mastered by experienced
shamans or priests, through rituals.
Symbols should be handled like
fire, or an explosive chemical, or poison:
powerful, yes; the essence of power!
And beautiful, of course; nothing is as beautiful
as something as perfect and abstract
as a symbol.
But ultimately
they're extremely dangerous
and they shouldn't be used
with our loved ones – don't we all agree.
So poetry should be for strangers
for an audience of unknown people
as words would be taken
and swallowed
and misinterpreted
misunderstood
distorted, processed, digested
broken and reassembled
re-shaped into new ones:
like oracles
their fogginess and lack of
precision leaves room for the untold,
for the omitted, to be filled;
and that's fine
that's how it's meant to be
that's poetry's power
but love
is another thing
and should be left out of this.
